LIONS TEAM COMPLETE

LEICESTER have concluded their team building exercise with the news that Andzejs Lebedevs, Kevin Wolbert, Erik Riss and Danny Ayres will be joining the club this season.

“It has been a very busy week since taking over Leicester with the team building process being the highest priority but I am pleased that we have now completed the task. We set out to engage riders who we had first priority over should there be fixture clashes with their Championship clubs. By and large we have achieved the objective as we only lose priority for Josh Auty and Erik Riss so the need to engage guest riders for missing team members is minimised. I believe that we have assembled a team of real racers with a blend of youthfulness and experience together with the potential to improve. After the troubles of the previous year that the club went through it was refreshing to hear that every rider we spoke to was really keen to sign for the club” said the Lions new owner Damien Bates.

Lebedevs had a brief spell three years ago with King’s Lynn and since then has ridden in the Polish, and Swedish leagues. The 22 year old Latvian who has represented his country in the World Cup also rode in the in last season’s European Championship competition.

Riss, whose birthplace is in Germany, will start his third year racing in this country. He is the current World Long-track Champion and was a teammate of Wolbert his fellow countryman at Edinburgh last year.

Completing the team is Danny Ayres who will occupy one of the reserve berths in the Lions team. Ayres was a member of the Glasgow team that won the Knock-out Cup last season and he averaged over four points a meeting for the Scottish club in what was his first season in the Premier League.
